Do you want to save as much time as possible for something more meaningful and enjoyable than home cleaning routine? Use a machine, there’s a bunch out there.
Automated cooking, automated cleaning – we have left our most basic tasks to the electrically-powered gizmos. They evolve too, taking away more and more of our responsibilities.
When it comes to robot vacuum cleaners, the market has quite a few offers. Dyson 360 Eye, Neato Botvac, Hoover Robo – these are some of the best models out there. Roomba 650 by iRobot has been particularly great for years thanks to its navigational capabilities. Carpets, cables, thresholds – these obstacles could maybe stop some other machines but have never posed a threat to this little guy. It also has enough power to clean most of the trash on the floor. Of course, robot vacuums have never claimed to be as good as your traditional ones, and if they aren’t good enough, just buy a good upright cleaner.
The tech market is pretty ruthless, and a couple of days ago Roomba 650 was discontinued and replaced with the 980 model. There isn’t much of a difference between them, but the newer vacuum can be controlled through Alexa or a dedicated application on your smartphone, therefore is a more expensive device at around $980.
Here’s another one. The Eufy RoboVac 11successfully rivals the more expensive Roomba 980 in the key area – navigation. Yeah, it might be challenged by some cords and thresholds, but it happens very rarely. Again, it is significantly cheaper too at around $200. The Eufy does a good job cleaning spaces of up to 1,200 square feet, or 111 square meters, without requiring attention from humans. It may miss some spots on your floor on the first try, but the somewhat random navigation system and the really long – 2,5 hour – battery life can make up for that.
It is also one of the quietest vacuum cleaners out there, with the noise level of approximately 60 dB. The Eufy comes with a remote control and manual steering options. Overall, it offers the functionality of significantly more expensive models. There is a drawback, though, because perfect solutions do not exist. It doesn’t have too much power, so it won’t be too useful if you have carpets and pets. The Eufy also lacks an LCD display and a companion app. But it is the best bang for the buck, and usually is about as great as more premium models.
Yet, the beloved Roomba 650 is durable and reliable (and there’s plenty of them on Amazon if you want to buy one). Of course, owners still have to replace the brushes and filters from time to time, but that’s true for any robot vacuum cleaner. iRobot sells all kinds of replacement parts, so it is not that difficult to fix the problem. Which cannot be said for the RoboVac 11. The 650 proved itself as a powerful machine – more powerful than the Eufy.
The smartphone application makes the newer 690 version so much more comfortable to use. You can schedule the cleaning, set it to a certain date, or dates should you need it. Yet its battery life is significantly shorter – only 90 minutes – and the cleaning area is a bit smaller at 1,000 square feet, or 92 square meters. In our experience, Roomba 650 does get stuck a little more often that the rival, but it’s unclear if it’ll be the case for the later version.
Nonetheless, either of these two cleaners would be a great pick for your house. Sure, there are some better machines at significantly higher prices. We find, though, that the difference in effectiveness is negligible, which cannot be said about money.
